LCH Fund Drive: Questions and Answers

What is the goal of the WAVE Fund Drive?
The goal is to raise the money we need to fund PTA and enrichment programs that enhance the learning experience of every La Costa Heights student. To maintain these programs, we need to raise more than $115,000 per year. We strive for 100 percent participation. Your donation – no matter the amount – will help. Please give what you can. Click here to donate.
How will the money be used?
In the past, donations were used to pay for our enrichment programs – music, PE and technology – and others like Arts Attack, classroom supplies, our lunchtime playground program, and mini grants. See the Fact Sheet for our current program list and costs. Without parent donations, these programs could not exist.
Are there different payment plans?
Yes, you can make a one-time donation, or make 12 monthly payments via PayPal. Payments can be made either by check or by credit card. Online service fees apply.
Is this our only fundraiser of the year, or will I be asked to participate in others throughout the year?
This drive is our major fundraiser. But our families also enjoy fun, community building events like Fall Festival, Book Fair, Jog-A-Thon, and Restaurant Nights, and would like to see events like these remain as part of the La Costa Heights experience. You can choose to participate in these events as much or as little as you want.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes! La Costa Heights is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so your donation is tax deductible. You will get a receipt with our tax ID number for your records.
Can my employer match my donation?
Yes! We highly encourage you to check with your employer to see if the company will match your pledge. Any match will benefit LCH greatly. See our corporate matching Q&A and our list of companies that match donations on our website. If you have questions, please email matching@lacostaheightspta.org.
Who determines how the money is spent?
How the money is spent will be determined by parent, teacher and administration representatives on the School Site Council and by voting members of the PTA. The goal is to bring La Costa Heights the programs and enrichment that will best suit every student’s needs. SSC and the PTA membership carefully weigh their decisions based on the EUSD Strategic Plan, the school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement, and our teachers’ and parents’ priorities.
If I donate, does that mean I’m a PTA member?
It is your choice to be a PTA member. If you donate more than $25 to the Fund Drive, you are considered a PTA member unless you choose to opt out. Only members in good standing can vote on PTA issues. While we encourage parental involvement, PTA members are not required to volunteer or attend meetings. If you choose not to be a member, please check the appropriate box on the payment form.
You keep talking about our enrichment teachers – how are they different than our classroom teachers?
La Costa Heights’ teachers have multiple subject credentials and are well qualified to teach science, music, PE, technology, and more. But a lot is demanded of them. We’ve brought in teachers who specialize in music, PE and technology to work hand-in-hand with our staff to enrich our children’s education. These teachers provide a hands-on experience for our kids outside of their core classroom learning. Your donations pay for these programs.
